FBI could take down Internet for millions on March 8

The DNS servers were installed by the FBI last year, in an effort to stop the spread of a piece of malware known as DNSCharger Trojan. But the court order that allowed the set up of the replacement servers expires on March 8.
Megaupload users: EFF wants to help you recover lost files
Digital Trends - As of Monday, it seemed all but guaranteed that the files stored on the servers used by Megaupload, which was seized by the US government on January 19, were gone for good. This includes the data of people who used Megaupload for legitimate purposes, like distributing work documents, or their own photo and video creations. But thanks to a collaborative effort between the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and Carpathia Hosting, which owns and operates many of the servers used by Mega in the US, users who lost their files may now have a way to get them back.

Seventy-seven servers are located in the United States and sixty-three are located in European countries. Report: Microsoft might rein in Windows 8 editions?
Digital Trends - Documents briefly posted to Hewlett-Packard’s Web site indicate Microsoft may be considering offering Windows 8 to the public in fewer editions (or SKUs, short for stock-keeping unit) that it current does with Windows 7—even though Windows 8 will be expanding onto a whole new platform with ARM. First spotted by ZDNet’s Stephen Chapman, the documents have since been pulled from HP’s site, but seemed to indicate Microsoft may be ditching the little-loved “Basic” editions of Windows in favor of three tracks aimed at consumers, enterprise users, and high-end professionals:
Japanese memory maker Elpida files for bankruptcy
Digital Trends - Japanese memory maker Elpida has filed for bankruptcy protection, citing debts of some ¥448 billion (about $5.55 billion), making it the biggest bankruptcy filing in Japanese history. Elpida is Japan’s last remaining manufacturer of DRAM, the memory that fuels everything from servers to desktop and notebook computers to smartphones and mobile devices. However, the company has struggled as the price of DRAM has steadily dropped to due competition from the likes of South Korea’s Samsung and Hynix, and the strong Japanese yen has both kept Elpida’s prices high and increased the cost of Elpida’s operations across the board. Although Elpida is still making RAM for the time being, the filing raises concerns that Japan may soon find itself out of the DRAM business it once dominated.
